For several years, my most meaningful and constant community involvement has been my assistance to various Finnish-American organizations and publications, including serving as a translator, writer, and book reviewer for the Finnish American Reporter and the New World Finn  journal.

In 2006-2008 I served on the Duluth-Superior area Finn Fest USA 2008 Board of Directors, which hosted the Finn Fest USA in Duluth, Minnesota. Finn Fest is a national festival which celebrates the culture of Americans of Finnish descent and Finnish citizens living in the United States. The event is held annually, hosted each year at a different site. As part of this event, I organized and participated in a Women Leaders' Panel, which included President Tarja Halonen from Finland and Marilyn Ware, former U.S. Ambassador to Finland. Since 2008, I have served on the Board of Directors for Duluth Sister Cities International, overseeing strategic planning, budgeting, and fundraising activities. In 2009-10, I have also been involved with the revision of travel policies for youth and professional adult participants of Duluth Sister Cities exchanges with Sweden, Japan, Canada, and Russia.
