Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Lake Superior College, Duluth, Minnesota (December 2007 - Present)
Served as Interim Dean July - December 2007
Responsible for the leadership, direction and administrative support for instructional programs at a two-year community and technical college, targeted at college transfer and occupational preparation. Provide leadership in the design, development, review, and evaluation of liberals arts and science curriculum; supervision and evaluation of instructional activities and personnel; and preparation and administration of budgets. Provide necessary services to students and maintain relationships with faculty, advisory boards, other committees, and community agencies and participate in other activities related to college administration. Special projects: college-wide academic assessment, college-wide civic engagement, and faculty development (CTL) activities.


English Instructor
Lake Superior College, Duluth, Minnesota (1999 - 2007)
Developed, taught, and assessed a variety of English courses, online and on-ground; played an active role in the department's curriculum, schedule, and budget planning; and served on many college committees, including the Institutional Effectiveness Committee. Regular course offerings included Fundamentals of Writing I and II, College Composition I and II with research, and Modern World Literature. Also taught additional literature courses and a Multi-cultural Studies course as part of the Europe Study Abroad Program.

Participated in the Academic Affairs projects as liberal arts representative; coordinated the development of the academic schedule; served on division curriculum committee; served as communication link between the dean and faculty; assisted with new program and course development; assisted with department, cluster, and division meetings; and served as co-chair of the Liberal Arts & Sciences Advisory Committee.

For four years,  proofread and edited the bimonthly publications New Moon: The Magazine for Girls and Their Dreams, New Moon Network, HUES, and DADS: Dads & Daughters.

Finnish Language Program Coordinator, Translator, and Interpreter
Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin
Over the past fifteen years, I have been teaching, interpreting, and translating Finnish, and some Swedish, to a wide audience, including community members, regional writers, and Finnish-American organizations and publications. For three years, I also coordinated my own Finnish language program in Superior, Wisconsin, developing curricula and teaching grammar, speaking, listening, and writing skills to beginning, intermediate, and advanced adult  students.

Additional Teaching:
Over the past years, I have also taught COMP 1120: College Composition and ENGL 1582: Introduction to World Literatures at University of Minnesota Duluth.
